HURRICANES

Please do not take any comments in TR397 as diminishing the death, destruction, and tragedy of these storms. Journalists, take the risk seriously but do not exaggerate it.

All data comes from NOAA’s National Hurricane Center and the National Data Buoy Center. See them for more details and confirmation of this data analysis. Focus here is the Atlantic hurricane basin, which includes the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.

Rain showers and thunderstorms are almost daily occurrence in this area. But to form a hurricane, thunderstorms must form a closed circle around the low-pressure center. Winds at all levels above the surface low must be similar in direction and speed. (No/little wind shear.) Any dry air will inhibit formation.

The objective fact is that hurricanes have tormented humanity long before the industrial revolution. The best way to minimize the damage of hurricanes is to learn to co-exist with them.
