I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1960 with a BS in Chemistry and a commission from the US Air Force ROTC. My senior year they sent eight of us to the South Bend airport to obtain a private pilot’s license in a Piper Cub, then USAF pilot training in Selma, Alabama, where I flew TR397, followed by four more years in Sacramento with the Air Defense Command flying the EC-121 Super “Connie”. I never planned a military career and in 1965 started a 31-year career with American Airlines. My crew bases were, Buffalo, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, and Dallas/Fort Worth.
I feel a debt to the United States Air Force more than to Notre Dame, (after my mom & dad, of course.)
